*The Beginning* You will need to send your tee shot over a blind crest protected at the top with a fairway bunker. Further bunkers are over the crest to the right, as the fairways bends gently left, ready to catch long drives that don’t draw. Make sure not to pull your approach short or the front bunker could come into play, but go too far and a small woodland awaits to swallow your shot. Oh, and don’t go left, or the bunker that runs almost the entire length of the green will catch you there.

*The Long One* The first of the par 5s is also the longest on the course, to catch you after a short par 4 on the first. With trees to the left and bunkers to the right, a straight tee shot is key. Be mindful of the bunker in the middle of the fairway ready to catch any misjudged second shots. There is a slope just before the green that wise players can utilise to help run onto the green, but beware the bunkers that guard the green

*Captain's Alley* A short par three but the elevation change between the tee and green is deceptive, meaning it’s all too easy to over or undershoot the green. With the green well above the surrounding ground, and that ground full of bunkers almost all the way around the green, selecting the right club for the distance is vital. For those with a flair for the dramatic, you could try using the bank to the right to guide your shot through the narrow gap between front and right bunkers and onto the green, known as Captain’s Alley. It’s a difficult shot, and will probably fail, but the rewards can be great.

*Tree Canyon* The 4th teebox is situated on the righthand side of the hole, and any shot that heads right from there will end up buried deep in the woods. Go too far left and you’ll be in or through the trees that line the edge of the course. Big hitters can find themselves quickly running out of fairway if fade isn’t used. You have been warned. The elevated green lies just over a hump at the end of the fairway, so while you can see the top of the flag from the fairway, judging the distance to it can be very tricky. Many golfers have walked over the hump thinking they were nicely on the green, only to find their ball nestled well short requiring an additional shot – it’s a par 4, so additional shots are costly.

*The Slog* The 5th is the hardest hole on the course for those off the yellow tees. There are bunkers to the left and right are ready to collect any shots that go offline! Avoid all of those and head towards the green, be mindful that the green is well protected with a bunker to the left and trees to the right (with deep rough behind) Many may consider laying up short of the green for a controlled chip in, but two strategically placed bunkers will complicate that plan.

*The Eye of the Needle* On any map the 6th looks a simple almost straight par 4, but stand on the yellow tee and the challenge becomes apparent; the trees lining the fairway left and the tee box right protect it well, only allowing a narrow avenue of green fairway visible to aim for. The red tee allows a much wider area to aim for, but be careful not to run out of fairway. A stepped green awaits, protected by bunkers on three sides and requiring accuracy to hit in the right area. Many a golfer has found themselves rolling to the wrong level of the green and facing the more complex putt that will result.

*The Long Drop* No 8 is the longest par 3 on the course, and as you stand on the tee, surrounded by trees on three sides, it looks even longer. Pick you club before heading to the tee and have faith in your decision. Many have changed their minds looking down the hole and lived to regret it. A long narrow green awaits your tee shot which slopes at the front ready to run your ball back off the green. Bunkers to the front, left and right sides are ready to penalise those for whom accuracy deserts

*Half Way House* A hole of two halfs - from the tee to the crest of the hill, then from the crest to the green. The first half looks simple with a wide fairway looking invitingly back at you as you stand ready to tee off, however woodland awaits close to either side of that fairway that can suddenly make it seem very narrow as your ball is in flight. Make it over the crest and the green is waiting in front of you, but if you stop and look at the fairway you will see a discernible left to right slope. Many have ignored this slope and gone straight for the green, only to pull their shot short and see what at first was a straight shot roll down to the right, straight into the deep pot bunker in front of the green. With the edge of the course and its out of bounds markers also sitting along the right edge, these holes suddenly become a lot more challenging than at first glance. Some wise old golfers have hinted that the right line is on the left hand side of the clubhouse (the left hand triangle), but let that be our secret!

*Slightly Shorter Long One* Teeing off slightly ahead of the front nine tees (although slightly behind on the red 2nd tee), the bunkers on the right and heavy rough on the left will be more in play. As you approach the green, remember the slope in front of the green that you can use to your advantage.

*Revenge of Captain's Alley* Teeing off the Yellow tees to the right on the front nine tees gives a much more acute angle to the green. Any slice to the right will likely lead to a ball lost to the wooded area. For those off the red tees, you will have an open invitation to pitch onto the green, but all those bunkers surrounding it will mean club choice remains key.

*Over The Hill* The 13th tees from the bottom of the hill behind the 12th green along the left edge of the hole, this needs faith as your ball rises over the blind crest and (hopefully) onto the fairway. Any movement left off the tee will likely see the ball through the trees that line the perimeter of the course, never to be seen again. This is par four from the yellow tees, but a par five from the red tees. Either way its a long hit to approach that elevated green.

*The Pit* For those from the yellow tees, it's a par 5 and a walk into the pit! An elevated tee box set deep into the woodland, with a narrow gap for your drive to fly out from. Any deviation left or right can quickly lead to your ball being swallowed up in the woodland. From the red tees, you are at least saved the walk into the pit but the hole is a par 4. With heavy rough and woodland to the left and bunkers ahead, it is a challenging tee shot to position yourself correctly

*Slightly Wider Eyed* For those off the yellow tees, you will have a wider view of the fairway to aim for. For those off the red tees, you will have a straighter line towards the green. From neither tee does it make for an easier hole, trouble still awaits if you don't get on the fairway, and then that stepped green awaits!

*Bunkerville* From those off the yellows, you are teeing off from further back this time. Will it trick you into swinging harder? if so you better keep it straight, because there is danger left and right (and don't forget all those bunkers) From the red tees, the hole will be shortend slightly, but you will be teeing from the right hand edge of the hole. Any movement right from there will likely be the last you see of your ball. (and did we mention all those bunkers?)

*The Short Drop* This time round you will be teeing off shorter than before and out in the open. Think this will make the hole easier? think again! Despite being SI18 from the yellows, the green hasn't got any wider and the bunkers haven't moved. An accurate tee shot is still required to prevent your feet from getting sandy, and your score card from getting a nasty surprise so close to the end.

*Final Stretch* The back nine tees give a straighter line to the fairway towards the crest, but this hole is all about the second shot. Out of bounds markers line the course to the right hand side, but its not all plain sailing to the left either - first woodlands and then bunkers await you out that way. Pick your line carefully and remember what you learned on the front nine.
